-To John Smith, I Am Number Four (2011)

Sarah Hart is the main love interest of John Smith (Number Four) and one of the supporting character of the I Am Number Four (2011) movie.

Appearance[]

Sarah is a blonde teenager with blue eyes. She appears to be around the same height as Sam Goode. She wears a woolen cap. She also wears a locket.

Personality[]

Sarah is kind and dislikes conflict. She dislikes conflict. She is quite interested in photography and is an amateur photographer. She appears to have a certain level of disregard towards the privacy of others. She posts embarrassing photos of her teacher picking his nose that circulated all over the internet. Later, she also created an entire section about John on her website. The latter could be about her growing interest about John, as well as her project "Strangers in Paradise" though.

Background[]

Sarah lived with her parents in Paradise, Ohio. She joined the cheerleader squad at some point. Additionally, she worked as a babysitter. She dated Mark James for a while, though their relationship appears to have been strained by the events of the movie.

Plot[]

Sarah is called to the Principal Simms office after she posted a picture of her teacher, Mr. Behrman, picking his nose in class.

The teacher accuses her of using up all the vital supplies, and claims that it is not fair to the other students. He also claims that the pictures in her website are totally "inappropriate". Sarah offers to let him keep the photos, but he fires back that the pictures are already all over the internet.

Mr

Mr. Behrman storms out of the Principal's office

The principal tells her that this is not like her and asks if there is something going on that she would like to talk about. He tells her to not let a few students down and finds her project, "Strangers in Paradise" to be creative. John, who is waiting to have his class schedule printed, notices her in the room and finds the incident funny. She catches him staring at her and he turns away. The principal tells her to enjoy the school year and gives back her camera on the condition that she does not post photos without the permission of the teachers and students.

As she leaves, the admin asks her to show John to his locker. John asks her what kind of camera she uses, and she playfully tells him that eavesdropping will not win him any friends. John claims that the office of the principal is a fish tank and that it is hard to not overhear. She runs across Mark James but ignores him. She claims that the whole place is a fish tank and shows him to his locker. She wishes him good luck and John introduces himself as John Smith. Sarah mistakenly thinks he does not want to tell her his name and walks away.

She later notices John as she is painting and witnessing him helping Sam Goode after mark and his friends throws a ball at him and knocks him to the ground. She later takes a picture of John without his permission.

John later visits her website and notices an entire section on him detailing him helping Sam and throwing the ball that knocked down one of Mark's friends (though only the throw is shown). It is unknown when she took some of those pictures. Henri hacks the website and removes them all for John's safety.

She later comes across John outside a store and explains that the name of her website, "Strangrs in Paradise" is only because she needed a name for her website and it was there. She defends her choice while acknowledging that it is artsy and pretentious. They talk about the town, and they run into two of the kids that Sarah babysits for film money. She unintentionally ignores John's attempt to pay her a compliment until John points it out. She explains that the camera is her personal "BS Detector" and that she sees better through it. She then takes a photo of John. They witness Sam's stepdad scolding him, and she explains his situation to John (and takes another picture).

They arrive at the house, and she is confused with how impressed John is with her house, not knowing about his past. She invites him to her house with a, "You hungry?"

Sarah's parents play the question game, and we learn that she was born because apparently, "Your parents will never know you are gone" was the advice that her mother got, evidently from her father. Her mother also told her that her self tanner looked natural, but it really made her look orange like a traffic cone and on picture day. Her parents want to show the picture and she disagrees.

She takes John to her room and apologizes about her parents, noting that they were simply trying to show him that they were cool. John notes that they seem proud of her, and she explains that they are trying to get her to attend the local community college in Dayton, as they don't want her to move away and become a wedding photographer. John picks up a camera and takes her photo. She tells him that that is her favorite camera and shows him how the photos look on her wall. John picks up a notebook and shifts thought it, though she tells him that it is private. John playfully counters, asks her why they are not allowed to look at it when she looks at everyone and takes their photos. After a while, she gets embarrassed and takes it away. John notes that it looks like that she just wants to leave Paradise, and she admits that she will be happy when she can get out of Ohio. John says that he has been to a lot of places, and she tells him not to tell here that there is no place like home, as she has already heard it. But John tells her that she can go wherever she wants and see whatever she wants. But a place is only as good as the people in it. He gets closer to her and tells her that he thinks that it is a pretty good place.

They are interrupted by Bernie Kosar and John attempts to leave. Sarah request him to hold on for a second. She gives him a camera and a roll of film and tells him, "Your turn".

John watches Sarah leave with Bernie, unaware that Mark is observing them from him car.

After the battle in Paradise High school, John leaves Sarah as the Mogs know his location and will soon be back. She appears to be slightly upset over John bonding with Number Six.

Sarah's Photography Website[]

Her website contains photos of various places around her, and she updates it regularly. She created a whole section for John, something he was pleased with. Unfortunately, Henri deleted the page by hacking her website to protect John from the Mogadorians.

Skills and Abilities[]

Photography: Sarah is an amateur photographer and appears to be quite dedicated. She runs a website of her photos and presumably maintains it by herself.

Home Economics: Sarah is skilled in this class.

Movie and Novel Difference[]

There are several differences in her character in the two versions. The notable ones are:

  • Her camera did not break when John first developed Telekinesis. John instead breaks several lampposts by the sidewalk.
  • She was not mildly upset by Number Six towards the end of the movie. While in the books, she displays no such attitude.

Trivia[]

  • Sarah Hart was portrayed by actress Dianna Agron in the 2011 movie adaptation of I Am Number Four. Debbie Marshall (Glee) Heroes, and Quinn Fabray (Glee) are also cheerleader characters played by Dianna Agron.
  • Sarah is a babysitter.
  • Exactly how Henri expects the photos to not resurface is not explained. Sarah would definitely notice that the photos are gone, and only John's photos vanishing would raise questions as to why that is happening. She could also easily re-upload them.
